Valkyries Field Hockey Drops Conference Opener To Queens (N.C.)

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse (0-3) College field hockey team dropped its South Atlantic Conference Conference Carolinas opener to Queens (N.C.) (3-1) by the final of 6-0 on Wednesday evening at Spartan High.

Queens posted three goals in each half to tally the shutout. The Royals held a 17-3 advantage on shots and 10-2 on penalty corners. Fouls were 24-17 in favor of the Valkyries.

Converse started the game strong, spending the majority of the opening minutes on the offensive end. Flore Samsi looked to put the Vals ahead just 120 seconds in, but her shot was kicked away by the Royals' keeper and the game remain tied.

From that point it was a defensive battle with neither team giving an inch until Victoria Tredinnick put QU ahead with an unassisted goal in the 17th minute of action. The Royals followed that with two more scores at the 24:57 and 28:52 marks to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

That lead expanded to 4-0 after a Renee Smith tally with 42:26 on the clock. Maya Forbes and Molly Walter each added a goal for the Royals to push the advantage out to its final mark of 6-0.

Maddie Yocklin led the Valkyries with two shots, including one on goal, while Samsi added the only other score attempt. Jacqueline Wadsley entered the game in the second half for Converse and recorded a game-high five saves on eight shots.

Converse will return to action on Saturday, September 22, traveling to Tennessee to take on Sewanee. That contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
