ON THE COURT
Brianna James led the Valkyries with a season-high 34 points. James' 34 point outing is the program's second best scoring outing behind her own school record 35 points last season. James hit 11 field goals including five from behind the arc.
Abigail Lewis posted a career-high 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor. Kassidy Moorhouse chipped in with nine points on 4-8 from the floor. Moorhouse also hauled in a team high nine rebounds.
Dominique Hill grabbed eight boards, while Keocia Walker dished out a career-high seven assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
Converse started the scoring with an Abigail Lewis basket down low. Mount Olive would start a 7-1 run to take the early lead 7-3. Brianna James knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 7-5.
The Trojans kept their lead to four for most of the quarter until Brianna James knotted things up at 13-all with 1:59 remaining in the quarter after a pair of freebies and a jumper.
Brianna James connected from deep to give the Valkyries their first lead of the contest at 18-17 with 35 ticks left in the quarter.
Mount Olive would take a 21-18 lead into the second frame.
2nd Quarter
The Valkyries' shooting went ice cold to start the quarter as the team shot 14.3% in the frame.
The Trojans used that to their advantage to go on a 17-0 run in the quarter to jump out to a 38-18 lead.
Brianna James knocked down a trey with 2:22 remaining in the half for the first basket of the quarter for the Valkyries to end the run.
Kassidy Moorhouse dialed up a three followed by a free throw by Jada Black. Brianna James would hit a jumper for the final basket of the quarter.
The Trojans went into the locker room with a 40-27 lead.
3rd Quarter
Brianna James continued to score for the Valkyries with a jumper and a trey to start the quarter. Abigail Lewis and James would trade baskets to cut into the deficit.
A 7-0 Valkyrie run cut the deficit to single digits. Brianna James knocked down a trey followed by baskets by Kassidy Moorhouse and Keocia Walker to make the Trojan lead 53-45 with 3:48 to play in the third.
Abigail Lewis hit a jumper with 39 seconds left in the quarter to send the Valkyries into the final 10 minutes of action down 62-54.
4th Quarter
The Trojans opened up the gap to 78-62 midway through the final quarter before the Valkyries found their groove.
Hannah Anderson hit a layup to start the attack. Brianna James knocked down another three followed by a Keocia Walker jumper and a Paige Johnson triple cut the deficit in half with 58 seconds remaining.
Both teams traded free throws the remainder of the contest as Mount Olive escaped with an 85-76 victory.
