Valkyries Fall In Hard Fought Match Against Shaw

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Converse volleyball team fought hard in their 2016 home opener against Shaw before falling 3-0 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Set:

  • Converse and Shaw swapped points for most of the first set before the Valkyries started a run with the score tied 13-all.
  • The Valkyries would take a 21-17 lead after a kill by Kayla Pettit.
  • Shaw would rally back to knot things at 24-all but would take the set 26-24.

2nd Set:

  • Shaw jumped out to an early 8-3 lead and extended their lead out to 15-8 forcing a Converse timeout.
  • Alexis Pitts service allowed the Valkyries to go on a 9-1 run to take the lead 18-16 on a kill by Kassie Burkett.
  • The Valkyries would continue to lead 21-20 before Shaw countered with a 5-1 run to take the set, 25-22.

3rd Set:

  • The teams continued to swap points in the third set as Shaw took a timeout with the score tied 16-all.
  • The score would be tied once again at 21, 23, 24, and 25-all.
  • Shaw would find a way to take the lead for the final two points after long back-and-forth rallies.

The Valkyries return to the court on Friday, September 30 against Conference Carolinas foe Mount Olive.  First serve is at 5pm.
