Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C.- In their first Conference Carolinas weekend roadtrip, the Valkyries volleyball team battled against Lees-McRae in a 3-0 loss (25-20, 25-21, 25-10) on Friday evening.
Converse (1-6, 0-2) was led offensively by hot hitting Alexis Pitts. The freshman finished with a career-high nine kills. Leslie Gonzalez and JaLesa Beaver chipped in with five kills each.
Deanna Unger and Kassie Burkett posted double-digit assists with 13 and 11 respectively. Vivica Nogueira tallied 10 digs.
In the first set Converse and Lees-McRae battled back and forth until LMC called a timeout leading 8-6. The Bobcats went on a 7-1 run to take the advantage to 14-7. The Valkyries would battle back to bring it to within one at 17-16 but that was as close as it would get as the Bobcats would take the set 25-20.
The second set was different as Converse jumped out to a early 5-1 lead. LMC would roar back to knot things at 11-all before taking the lead. The Bobcats would lead things 20-14 before Converse started to rally. The Valkyries would cut it to 24-21 but fell short 25-21.
In the final set the Valkyries came out flat as LMC capitalized on errors jumping out to an early 8-0 lead and could not gain momentum as the Bobcats took the set and match 25-10.
Converse returns to the court on Saturday, September 17 as the Valkyries continue their Conference Carolinas road swing taking on King in Bristol, Tenn. at 2pm.
