Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Converse Basketball team posted their sixth win of the season behind four Valkyries in double-figures on the way to an 85-61 victory over the visiting Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening.
Converse (6-19) was led by Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.) posting a double-double with a career-high 22 points and career-high 13 boards. Khrystal Ellis (Greenville, S.C.) scored 14 points and seven boards.
Brianna James (Spartanburg, S.C.) chipped in with 13 points and Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, Iowa) netted 10 points. Yashee Johnson (West Columbia, S.C.) hauled in 10 board and posted six rejections.
The Valkyries offense sputtered to start the contest seeing an early 9-2 hole just four minutes into the contest. Converse ended the first quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 16-13 advantage and never looked back.
Converse continued to push their lead throughout the second quarter seeing the lead balloon to 11 after a Logan Hollis lay-up. Hollis made the final eight points for the Valkyries in the half to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room.
Consistent play for the Valkyries in the second half allowed the lead to swell even more as Converse outscored Southern Wesleyan by seven points in the third quarter and nine points in the fourth.
The Valkyries took a 15 point advantage into the final 10 minutes of action before taking the contest by a 24 point margin.
Converse posted their sixth win of the season, which is the most since 2008-09 season. The Valkyries will look to tie the school record for wins in a single season when they square off with Belmont Abbey on Friday, February 26. Tip-off is at 7pm with senior day festivities for Ashley Salgado and Kelcee Dozier prior to tip-off.
