SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Converse Volleyball team put up resistance in a straight set defeat to reigning Conference Carolinas Champion Erskine, 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16), on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Top Performers | JaLesa Beaver with nine kills, Deanna Unger 23 assists and eight digs, Alexis Pitts four total blocks (3 solo, 2 assisted).

1st Set

• Converse and Erskine would swap rallies in the first set until a kill by JaLesa Beaver would cut the Fleet lead down to 15-13.
• Erskine would go on a 10-2 run to end the set.  Both points came off Kayla Pettit kills.

2nd Set

• Erskine started off the set with an 11-3 run and would extend that lead out to 19-8 before Converse found their groove.
• Quick service by the Valkyries caused several attacking errors bringing the score to 21-15.
• Converse would continue their rally after two straight Fleet points to force more attacking errors to cut the Erskine lead to 23-22.
• Erskine would take the set 25-23.

3rd Set

• Converse and Erskine continued to swap points early in the set forcing Erskine to call a timeout at 9-all.
• A kill by JaLesa Beaver and a service ace by Deanna Unger gave the Valkyries their largest lead of the match at 11-9.
• Erskine would counter with an 9-1 to jump out to an 18-12 advantage late.
• Converse would record kills by Journee English, Kayla Pettit and JaLesa Beaver in the final portion of the set before falling 25-16.
