SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After a strong start, the Converse Volleyball team dropped a Conference Carolinas match in straight sets to the visiting Southern Wesleyan Warriors on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Set

• The Valkyries started off the set strong matching SWU point for point in a back-and-forth set.
• The set featured 13 ties and eight lead changes.
• Converse fell behind 21-16 before the Valkyries would rally to knot things at 24-all.
• Kills by Journee English, JaLesa Beaver and Kassie Burkett would force SWU to take a timeout, leading 22-20.
• A solo block by JaLesa Beaver would cut the deficit to one, 22-21.
• SWU would push their lead to 24-22 but a kill by Alexis Pitts and a SWU attacking error knotted it up at 24.
• A kill by Kayla Pettit and a block by Alexis Pitts allowed the Valkyries to take a 26-25 lead.
• SWU would piece together three straight points to take the set 28-26.
• Converse posted 18 kills in the first set.

2nd Set

• SWU jumped out to an early 7-4 lead.  Converse would bring it back to within one at 8-7 before the Warriors rallied with an 8-2 lead forcing the timeout at 16-9 in favor of SWU.
• Converse would start chipping away at the lead with back-to-back kills by Kassie Burkett followed by a kill by Journee English brought it to within 21-16.
• SWU would take the set 25-18.

3rd Set

• Once again, SWU would jump out to an early 9-4 lead and extended their lead to 15-7.
• The Warriors attack continued using a .632 hitting percentage in the set to make the final 10-2 run and take the set and match 25-9.
