Valkyries Lose Battle To Trojans On Road

Box Score

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.- Converse started off hot but couldn't sustain as the Valkyries fall to Mount Olive 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-21) on Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match-up.

Converse (3-5, 0-2) finished the first set with 18 kills but did not reach double-digit kills in the final two sets.  Aeriel Wheeler (Woodruff, S.C.) and Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) finished the match with seven kills apiece.  Wheeler hit a team high .455 while Butler finished with a team high 13 digs.

Krislyn Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) had a solid match tallying five kills (.417) with 25 assists and seven digs.  Cayla Wood (Asheville, N.C.) and Jordan Robertson (Greenville, S.C.) recorded 10 digs each.

In the first set Converse and Mount Olive battled back and forth in the first set featuring nine ties.  With the score tied at 9-all, UMO rattled off five straight points to take a 14-9 advantage thanks to Valkyrie miscues.  Converse would rally back to bring it to within one (18-17) late in the set.  The Valkyries continued to fight back and tie things at 21-all, 24-all and 25-all.  Back-to-back attacking errors allows the Trojans to steal the first set.

Despite the miscues in the second and third set, the Valkyries continued to battle but would fall short to the Trojans.

Converse will have a short memory and return to the court Saturday, September 19, as the Valkyries take on Barton in a Conference Carolinas match.  First serve is at 2pm.
