Butler's Double-Double Not Enough Against NGU

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Offense seemed nonexistent in the first two sets of the match against North Greenville as Converse drops the Conference Carolinas opener in straight sets on Tuesday evening.

Converse (3-4, 0-1) totalled 23 kills during the match with 11 of those coming from senior hitter Katie Butler.

Butler (Savannah, Ga.) posted her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career with 11 kills and 11 digs.

Jordan Robertson (Greenville, S.C.) and Madeline Pate (Cassatt, S.C.) posted 12 and 11 digs respectively.  Krislyn Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) added 18 assists to her total.

Converse struggled offensively in the first two sets hitting .033 and -.059 respectively.  Converse seemed to get in the groove in the third set hitting .156 thanks to Butler racking up six of her 11 kills in the set.

In the third set, North Greenville (5-4, 1-0) jumped out to an early 9-4 lead.  Converse battled back to tie things up at 9-all grabbing three service aces from Moore.  With NGU at match point, the Valkyries would battle back to take the lead 25-24 thanks to some great service from Robertson.  Two Crusader kills and a Valkyrie attacking error would give NGU the match 3-0.

Converse heads on the road for their first Conference Carolinas road trip as the Valkyries take on Mount Olive on Friday at 7pm followed by Barton on Saturday at 2pm.
