Valkyries Drop Home Finale Against Tornado

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse wrapped up their 2015 home slate falling to King in a Conference Carolinas clash on Saturday afternoon, 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 19-25, 15-25).  Converse falls to 3-21 (0-14) on the season while King improves to 16-12 (9-5).

Converse was led by senior Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) with a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs.  Makaylah Plemmons (Union County, S.C.) led the team with 17 digs.  Aeriel Wheeler (Woodruff, S.C.) posted nine kills with JaLesa Beaver (Katy, Texas) finished with eight kills.

The Valkyries and Tornado battled throughout the entire match.  Converse started slow in the first set netting seven kills in the set with King hitting .375 to take the set 25-17.

Converse rallied back to take the second set 25-18 with the aid from King hitting -.059.  Converse grabbed a 5-4 lead early and never handed the lead back to the Tornado.  The Valkyries would go on a 5-2 run to jump out to a 11-6 advantage.  Converse would extend the lead to 18-10 thanks to four kills by Katie Butler.  JaLesa Beaver added two kills.  The Valkyries had to fend off a Tornado rally up 24-15 but an Aeriel Wheeler killed gave the Valkyries a 25-18 set victory.

The Valkyries continued to battle in the third set netting a hitting percentage of .257 in the set.  Converse and King were tied at 19-all late in the set.  King used two service aces to score the final six points to take the set 25-19.

King took a 6-2 advantage in the fourth set before Converse fought back to close the gap to 8-6.  King would continue their attack hitting .545 in the set despite the Valkyries posting 10 kills and only two errors.  The Tornado would finish off the match with a 25-15 fourth set victory.

The Valkyries wrap up the 2015 slate on the road against Conference Carolinas foes Pfeiffer on Friday, November 6 and Belmont Abbey on Saturday.
