TIGERVILLE, S.C.- Converse Valkyries could not overcome an early deficit against North Greenville, as the Valkyries suffer its seventh straight defeat on Saturday afternoon, 82-53. Converse drops to 1-7 on the season and 0-5 in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville improves to 4-8 on the season and 3-3 in league play.
Kelcee Dozier (Blythewood, S.C.) and Margo Dill (Hilton Head, S.C.) scored in double-figures for the Valkyries. Dozier finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Dill scored 10 points and grabbed six boards. Jakyra Washington (Durham, N.C.) tallied seven points. Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, Iowa), Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.), and Kassidy Moorhouse (Anderson, S.C.) scored six points each.
Hannah Anderson (Savannah, Ga.), Kayla Garrett (Indianapolis, Ind.), and Jenna White (Fort Mill, S.C.) chipped in two points apiece.
Dozier scored the first five points of the game for the Valkyries to take a 5-2 lead. NGU countered with a 25-4 run to take a 27-9 lead just 10:35 into the game. The Crusaders took a 40-23 lead into the locker room.
Converse's starters shot 2-20 in the first half with the bench shooting 6-9. Dozier was the only starter to hit a shot in the first half going 2-2 with seven points. Dill off the bench tallied six points going 3-3 from the floor. Washington scored all of her seven points in the first half going 3-5 from the floor.
NGU shot 56.7 (17-30) in the first half hitting five threes in the process. The Crusaders finished the game shooting 47.6% from the floor grabbing 34 points in the paint. NGU kept the Valkyries out of the paint denying 11 shots.
The second half showed the Crusaders extend its lead to 33 points twice. Converse showed some life in the final four minutes of the game when Garrett, Anderson and White scoring on their first shot attempts.
Converse continues its road trip, January 7th, as the Valkyries travel to Misenheimer, N.C. to square off with Pfeiffer at 5:30 pm.
