SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Not many things went right for Converse on Monday evening against Belmont Abbey dropping its 12th straight game, 63-40 at home. Converse falls to 1-12 on the season and 0-10 in Conference Carolinas play. Belmont Abbey improves to 9-8 on the season and 5-6 in league play.
Belmont Abbey limited Converse on nearly every facet of the stat sheet. Converse posted a season-low 40 points scoring a season-low 18 points in the first half. The Crusaders kept Valkyrie leading scorer Margo Dill (Hilton Head, S.C.) to two points after scoring a career-high 28 points against Mount Olive two days ago. Hannah Anderson (Savannah, Ga.) played well off the bench leading the Valkyrie scoring tying a career-high eight points. Anderson shot 4-5 from the floor. Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, Iowa) and Jakyra Washington (Durham, N.C.) chipped in seven points each.
Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Yashee Johnson (Columbia, S.C.) hauled in six rebounds apiece. Belmont Abbey out-rebounded Converse 53-40, grabbing 37 caroms on the defensive end of the floor. Converse had an assist on 10 of the 15 made baskets, while BAC had 20 on 27 made baskets.
Converse was held to a season-low 19.4% (7-36) in the second half shooting 8.3% (1-12) from behind the arc. BAC shot 57.1% from the floor in the second half on its way to a 45% from the floor for the night.
Converse returns to the hardwood Friday, Jan. 23 against North Greenville. Tip-off is at 7pm.
