Converse Hangs Tough with SWU

CENTRAL, S.C.- Converse falls in straight sets against Southern Wesleyan on the road despite playing the first two set tight on Saturday afternoon.  The Valkyries dropped the match 25-27, 27-29, 13-25.  Converse falls to 7-14, 1-8 in league play, while SWU improves to 17-6 and 8-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

Converse trailed midway through the first set 18-13 and tied things up at 21-all before falling 27-25.  Converse again fell behind in the set second and battled back to once again tie things up late.  SWU powered on and took the second set 29-27.  Converse couldn't get into a rhythm in the third set as SWU jumped out to a 20-7 lead before taking the match 25-13.

The Valkyries hit .241 and .282 in the first two sets before getting into a funk hitting .081 in the final set.  Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) led the team with 12 kills.  Journee English (Columbia, S.C.) followed up with 11 kills of her own.

Aubrey Crosby (Spartanburg, S.C.) led the Valkyries on the defensive front with 12 digs.  Krislyn Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) dished out 36 assists.

Scottie Kay Auton (Gaffney, S.C.) led the Valkyries with six assisted blocks.  Converse finished the match with a season high nine total blocks (16 assisted, 1 solo).  Auton added six kills.

Converse continues the road swing heading to Lander for a midweek nonconference match, Oct. 21.
