Valkyries Fall To Mount Olive, 81-61

SPARTANBURG, SC-The Valkyries hosted the Trojans of Mount Olive College on Saturday in a Conference Carolinas league game and dropped a 81-61 decision. The loss drops the Valkyries to 3-17 on the season and 3-10 in Conference Carolinas play, while Mount Olive is now 10-3 in Conference Carolinas play and 13-6 overall.

Converse was in the game during the first-half and went into the locker room down 40-29 at the half.  Five minutes into the second-half Mount Olive was able to extend their lead out, and hold on for the 81-61 victory.

The Trojans shot 50 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.  The Valkyries were able to pressure the Trojans to create 23 turnovers, but Converse had 33 turnovers of their own.  The Valkyries shot 40.4 percent from the floor and 60.9 percent at the charity stripe.

The Trojans were led by Jasmine Whitby who recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Teammates Andrea Jones and Brittany Miller both put up double digits with 24 and 11 points respectively.

The Valkyries were led by sophomore Katy Vaughan (Lebanon, TN) with 14 points and 6 rebounds, and freshman Samira Gillcrese (Florence, SC) who recorded 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Converse takes the court again Monday, February 7th at home against St. Andrews Presbyterian College, tip-off is at 6 PM.
