Valkyries Unable To Stop Bulldogs

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Bulldogs of Barton College earned their 3rd straight  Conference Carolinas regular season title on Tuesday night as they downed the Valkyries, 79-51.

Barton (22-3 overall, 17-1 Conference Carolinas) will enter the conference tournament as the #1 seed, as it appears a conference tournament berth has disappeared for Converse (4-22 overall, 4-21 Conference Carolinas).

The Bulldogs seized control early in the first half, starting the game with a 26-7 run that left a steep hill for the Valkyries to climb with 10 minutes remaining in the first-half.  Barton's lead was 43-25 at the half, and they kept the lead steadily above 20 throughout the second-half.

The Bulldogs were led by Nyeshea Willie who had 17 points and 6 steals, and Jamila Johnson contributing 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

For the Valkyries, sophomore Katy Vaughan (Lebanon, TN) was the leading scorer with 12 points to go with 8 rebounds, while senior Morgan Sacharski (Sussex, WI) had 6 points and 12 rebounds.

Converse will travel to play the Cobras of Coker College on Friday, Feb. 25th at 5:30PM.
