SPARTANBURG, SC- The Bobcats of Lees-McRae College came out hot on Monday night, shooting 58 percent from the floor in the first half to build a 41-23 lead at half-time. That would provide the cushion they would need to cruise to their first conference victory of the season against the Valkyries with a final score of 77-48.
The Bobcats were led by their sophomore point guard, Icey Patterson who dished out 11 assist to go along with 5 steals and 7 points. Senior Erin Thompson led the game in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6 of 9 from the floor.
Converse drew within 15 points early in the second half, but were unable to stop the balanced scoring attack of Lees-McRae who had 4 players in double digit scoring for the game.
For the Valkyries, senior Morgan Sacharski (Sussex, WI) was one point shy from recording a double-double with 10 rebounds and 9 points for the game. Sophomore forward Katy Vaughan (Lebanon, TN) led the Valkyries in scoring with 13 points to go with her 6 rebounds.
The Valkyries will travel Laurinburg, NC to face St. Andrews on January 6th.
