ANDERSON, SC-- The Valkyries basketball squad was downed by number one ranked conference foe Anderson University Thursday evening 77-53. The loss drops Converse to 0-9 on the season while AU advances to 5-4 overall.

Valkyries senior Ashley Arff opened the game with a deep three-point shot, establishing Converse's only lead of the night. Arff eventually totaled 11 points for the game. Sophomore Alaina Smith chipped in 10 other points while freshman Katie Vaughn pulled down 8 total rebounds for Converse. Vaughn boosted her defensive effort by forcing 5 turnovers in steals.

The Valkyries shot 32% in the paint, 39% from the arc, and 67% at the charity stripe for the night.

Converse will face Limestone College in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, January 9th. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
