Valkyries Down Flying Fleet, 86-69

Spartanburg, SC-- Ashley Arff's 26 total points combined with Morgan Sacharski's double-double (13 points, 14 rebounds) helped lead the Valkyries to a decison in a fast-paced bout that only stretched out for Converse in the final minutes. With the win, Converse improves to 5-19 overall (5-14 in conference) and Erskine slides to 14-10 on the season (10-9 league).

The first half opened with a 10-2 run by the Valkyries who were answered by traded shots which led to Erskine's cutting the lead to just one point at 27-26 with 2:19 to go. The half ended with Converse up by 6, with five of the points coming from a layup by Alaina Smith and a three-pointer by Jess McMahan. Also, Erskine's high-scorer, Audrey Timmerman, was out for the game on a shoulder injury that occured late in the period and was the result of an accidental collision with Converse's Kariann Hill.

Round two opened up with a serious intensity that resulted in foul trouble for both teams. The pace quickened and both teams traded points at the charity stripe and under the glass. The Valkyries fought to break away from a close score at 54-52 and began to lengthen their lead wih 5:00 to go in the game. When the buzzer finally sounded, Converse led by 17 points at 86-69.

The Valkyries were led by Arff who scored 26 points, had 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Morgan Sacharski followed with her double-double- 13 points, 14 total rebounds. Alaina Smith also contributed 13 points. Sydney Brown, who scored her 1000th career point last Saturday at Queens continues to help out the Converse bench, adding 4 more points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Erskine was led by Porsha Morgan who managed 14 total points. Lauren Brendle and Mary Ann Langford both added 12 points apiece.

The Valkyries will play their final home game on Saturday, February 21 against Limestone at 2:00pm. Following the game, Converse Lacrosse will take the field for the first time ever against Lees-McRae under the new lights at 6:00pm on Fulp Field.
