As your new Director of Athletics, it is truly my pleasure to welcome you to campus for the 2018-19 academic year. I could not be more honored to be part of the Converse College family, and I look forward to meeting each of you. Even more so, I look forward to seeing you grow as a student-athlete during your time with us.
Our department is very excited about the upcoming year, and we absolutely cannot wait to get started! We have an incredible team of administrators, coaches and support staff ready to serve you and provide you with the resources you need to reach your fullest potential as a student-athlete.
My hope for each of you is that you pursue excellence in everything you do – in the class- room, in your playing arena, and in life. By pursuing excellence, you will become the best version of you, and becoming the best you can be will lead to an incredible year! There’s no limit to what we can accomplish if we work together, stay committed and keep our priori- ties straight.
Attend class and be prepared. Take pride in doing well in school, and help us maintain our cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher each semester. Last year, 101 student-ath- letes achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher. With a full commitment to academics, that number will increase significantly.
Athletically, this year can and will be a breakout year for Converse College Athletics. I have no doubt that we will see records broken and goals surpassed. I look forward to see- ing more of you being recognized for your achievements and celebrating those with you throughout the year!
We always want to strive to make a difference on our campus and in the community. Get involved on campus, as this will help you become a more well-rounded student-athlete. As for the Spartanburg community, we will provide you with opportunities to serve others. Last year, you all served more than 3,600 hours, and I look forward to working alongside you to meet this year’s goal of 5,000 hours.
Student-athletes are often viewed as role models, and I expect you will be no different. Please remember this as you make decisions throughout the year. My hope is that you will lead the way in always doing the right thing in every situation you face, and that you will inspire others to be better by the way you carry yourself each day.
This is going to be a great year, and I hope you are just as excited about it as I am. If we can ever be of service to you or help in any way, please let us know. Best of luck, and Go, Valkyries!
