Valkyries Drop Match at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Converse College (3-16, 1-9 CC) volleyball team was on the wrong side of a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Emmanuel College (11-8, 7-2 CC) on Friday evening. The Lions were able to earn the victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-8, and 25-17.

Ansley Hodge led the Vals with six kills while Jordan Mrkvicka dished out six assists and Deanna Unger tallied 10 digs.

Emmanuel jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first set, but Converse cut the deficit to two points (15-13) halfway through. However, that was as close as the score would get as EC used a set-ending run of 10-2 to take a 1-0 match lead.

Set two was all Emmanuel with the Lions controlling a commanding 20-3 lead. Converse used a 5-1 run to close the gap to 21-8 but the deficit was too much to overcome and the Lions took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-8 set win.

Set three was more competitive. Emmanuel held on to a slim 9-7 lead early, but used a 9-4 run to extend the lead to 18-11. The Valkyries did not go quietly, using a 4-2 spurt to close to within 20-15, but Emmanuel finished the set with five of the next seven points to take the frame 25-17 and the match, 3-0.

Converse will be back in action on Saturday, October 14 as it travels to Due West, S.C. to take on the Flying Fleet of Erskine College. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
