GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Converse (3-14, 1-6 CC) College volleyball team fell to Limestone (3-8, 3-4 CC) College on Saturday afternoon at the Timken Center. The Saints were able to pull out the win with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-18.
Kenzie Schmaltz once again led the Valkyries on offense with a team-high 11 kills, while Lauren Tharrington dished out 13 assists. Deanna Unger and Sydney Allen anchored the defense with 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Victoria Norwood led Limestone with 13 kills. Mia Bergen contributed 15 assists and Erin Kennedy finished with 22 digs.
Converse jumped up on Limestone early in set one, racing out to a quick 5-1 lead. However, the Saints battled back and took their first lead at 7-6. From that point the score was tied five separate occasions, the last being 13-all. Limestone used a pivotal rally to push ahead 17-13 and eventually took the frame 25-22.
After the two teams exchanged the first 14 points of the second set, LC reeled off an 8-3 run to gain a five-point advantage (15-10). That lead grew to as many as eight (22-14) before the Saints took a commanding 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 second set win.
Much like the first set, the Valkyries were the aggressor early on in the third frame, pushing ahead 10-6. Unfortunately, Limestone used another key run, this time 12-7 to take a lead at 18-17 and went on to collect seven of the next eight points to take the frame 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Converse will be back to the court on Tuesday, October 10 as it travels to Central, S.C. to take on Southern Wesleyan University. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
