SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman dual-sport athlete Serenity Hunt entered into the college ranks at Converse and made an immediate impact towards her legacy with a sensational year for the Purple and Gold.
While seeing action in 17 games for the Valkyries basketball team, Hunt's biggest accomplishment came for the track and field team, setting not only a new Converse record in the long jump, but also raising the bar within the conference by eclipsing the Conference Carolinas record in the event.
"It feels absolutely amazing to be the best long jumper in the conference", said Hunt after her distance of 5.56m surpassed everyone in the field at the 2018 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships on April 27-28.
Serenity improved her distances at every meet en route to her epic performance at conference. "What helped me improve on my jumps so quickly came from working hard in practice and going even harder in the weight room, while trusting the process", she exclaimed. Hunt added, "I come from a very athletic family and just about everyone plays a sport."
As a child, growing up about 200 miles southeast of Spartanburg, Hunt knew that she had the talent it took to reach the next level, but a little trouble figuring out what to do with those talents. That is until she linked up with Maurice Grant from Francis Marion University. "Growing up I knew I had the talent I just never knew what to do with it, but Grant helped me tremendously and I was able to use my talents for the sports I loved."
Hunt plans to return to Converse and looks to break her own records in the coming season. "Being that I am focusing primarily on track, I will have more time to dedicate towards improving myself. Hopefully, with that extra time I will be able to set new records and advance to nationals."
