Converse Track Posts Two Podium Finishes At Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Converse Indoor Track team provided numerous personal best performances at the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championships at JDL Fast Track on Sunday.

The Valkyries produced two podium finishes on their way to a ninth place finish.  Converse finished with 24 total points with fifth place ahead by 11 points.  

Shakura Wesley and the Distance Medley Relay squad finished on the podium.

INSIDE THE LANES

200m

Ciera Richards broke a three year old school record in the event with a time of 26.34.  Deja Attaway posted a personal best time of 27.03.  Derian Cunningham clocked a time of 27.33.

Pole Vault

Hannah Asselin breaks the school record in her first collegiate meet by clearing 9'2.25" (2.80m).  Asselin finished tied for fourth and just off the podium.

Weight Throw

Shakura Wesley became the first Valkyries thrower to finish on the podium.  Wesley finished second overall in the weight throw with a heave of 42'1.25" (12.83m) to score eight points.

Jordan Cooksey produced a sixth place finish to score three points for the Valkyries with a personal best throw of 40'10.5" (12.46m).

Shot Put

Shakura Wesley finished eighth in the event with a heave of 33'4.75 to score a point for the Valkyries.

Long Jump

Sequoya Davis finished 16th overall with a jump of 15'9.75" (4.82m).  Daija McKenith posted a leap of 14'5.75" (4.41m). Dominique Hill posted a jump of 13'5" (4.09m).

4000m DMR

The Converse DMR team broke the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship record time by a second for a third place podium finish, while picking up six points.  The squad of Deja Attaway, Jane Macsay, Lauren Morris, and Autumn Stone posted the second best time in program history with a time of 13:08.30.

Converse has finished third for the second straight year.

60m Run

Ciera Richards finished 11th overall after posting the second fastest time in program history with a time of 7.96.

Daija McKenith posted a personal best time to move to sixth in program history with a time of 8.30.  McKenith finished in 17th place.

Mile

Autumn Stone missed out on scoring for the Valkyries with a ninth place finish.  Stone finished with a time of 5:41.10.  Jane Macsay finished 15th overall with a time of 5:58.96.

Triple Jump

Dominique Hill led the Valkyries with an 11th place finish.  Hill posted the second best leap in program history with a mark of 34'5" (10.49m).

Sequoya Davis finished 14th overall with a mark of 33'9.25" (10.29m).

400m

Derian Cunningham improved her personal best time in the event with a time of 1:01.69.  Jada Simmons bested her previous best with a time of 1:04.21.

800m

Lauren Morris finishes 12th in the event with a time of 2:31.35.

4x400m Relay

In the final event of the Championships, the relay team finished seventh overall with a time of 4:13.80.  Deja Attaway, Derian Cunningham, Lauren Morris, and Ciera Richards posted the third fastest time in program history.

Converse will take a few weeks off to prepare for the outdoor season as they compete in the 49er Classic at UNC Charlotte on March 17-18.
