Valkyries Tennis Impressive During Opening Round of Conference Carolinas Tournament

SUMTER, S.C. – The Converse College tennis team took its talents to Sumter, S.C. on Friday afternoon, competing in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas Fall Tournament. The tournament allows each player to play as an individual and the Valkyries picked up four wins to three defeats during round one.

THE RESULTS:

Steffi Kong got the day started with a Flight A win, knocking off Areej Fareh in straight sets, 6-3,6-2. Morgan Hildebrandt, Alex Schlesener, and Kaitlin Knight all took home straight-set victories in Flight B. Hildebrandt defeated Whitney Hamilton 6-2, 6-3, while Schlesener took down Morgan Zahnd 6-2, 6-1. Knight rounded out the wins for Converse with a win over Emily Heim due to a withdrawal from an injury.

The Valkyries will be back in action tomorrow morning, looking to continue their winning ways in day two of the event. Hildebrandt will team up with Carlie Peeler in doubles action starting at 8 a.m., while singles action will get underway at 10 a.m.
