Her coaching career includes time with Performance Aquatics, an elite USA swimming club in south Florida, where she was trained, mentored, and inspired by Kathleen Prindle. Throughout her time at PAQ, Henkel worked closely with athletes of all levels ranging from the age group team, to senior and national teams. Here, she also created and administered swimmer specific strength programs.

In her first year at the helm of the Converse Swim program, Henkel led the Valkyries to a 2nd-place overall finish at the Conference Championships. Her team produced three conference champions, while establishing three new conference records. Henkel's team was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team during the fall and spring semesters, running their total to 18 consecutive semesters on this prestigious list. Most impressively, the Valkyries made up two-thirds of the overall Academic All-Conference Team, placing four individuals on the plaudit.

Previously, Henkel served as the Assistant Strength & Conditioning coach at Converse for five teams; including being the primary strength coach for the swim team. Henkel also served as the assistant swim coach. Here she helped lead the team to a sixth place finish at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship meet, their highest placement since 2012, as well as new school records and multiple program "Top 10" list performances.

Her background also includes a significant amount of strength and conditioning experience. As a sports performance coach with Spartanburg Regional Hospital System, she has coached athletes of all ages from elementary to elite collegiate/professionals. Kristina is currently certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

During her collegiate career, Henkel was a member of the NCAA Division I Gardner-Webb University swim team where she was a four-time All-Academic Honors member. Kristina and her husband currently reside in the Spartanburg area.
