Valkyries Take Tough Loss to No. 10 Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Converse (1-4, 0-2 CC) lacrosse team fell to the No. 10 Limestone (3-1, 2-0 CC) Saints in Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints jumped out 15-0 at halftime and finished the contest outscoring the Valkyries 5-1 to reach the final score of 20-1.

Brittni Jones led the Purple and Gold with three shots, while Sharlize Burgos and Ashlei Alston grabbed two ground balls each. Victoria Bailey contributed two caused turnovers for Converse. Alston added the only goal on the evening as Limestone held a commanding 36-7 advantage on shots and 27-10 on groundballs.

Limestone scored early and often in the first half of the contest, racing out to a comfortable 15-0 lead heading into the intermission. That advantage extended to 18-0 just 10 minutes into the second period. Converse finally got on the board when Alston connected on an unassisted goal at the 7:37 mark. However, the Saints added two goals over the remaining seven and a half minutes to take the contest, 20-1.

Britannie Ouimet led LC with seven goals to go along with three assists while Caitlyn Nemeth added two. Caitlyn Johnson dropped to 1-4 on the season, playing 30 minutes in goal and allowing 15 scores and collecting five saves. Myka Jones finished the game with the second half between the pipes, allowing five goals with three saves. Jenna Haring (3-1) earned the win, going the distance with five saves and one goal allowed.

Converse will be back in action on Saturday, March 3 as it plays host to North Greenville. First draw control is scheduled for 1 p.m.
