Converse Struggles Against Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. - The Converse Lacrosse team dropped a Conference Carolinas contest against Belmont Abbey on Thursday afternoon on the road, 18-4.

The Converse offense posted four goals on six shots on goal.

Brittni Jones, Elizabeth Gabriele, Ashlei Alston, and Laura Starkes netted a goal each for Converse.

Aubrie Lauderdale tallied the lone assist in the contest.

Belmont Abbey controlled the contest with 17 of the 24 draw controls.


1st Half:

Belmont Abbey jumped on the scoreboard just 35 seconds into the match.  Ashlei Alston would tie things at 1-all on an unassisted goal.

The Crusaders took a firm grasp on the contest with 10 straight goals to lead 11-1 with six minutes left in the first half.

Laura Starkes halted the run with an unassisted goal with 4:28 remaining in the half.

Belmont Abbey led 12-2 heading into the intermission.

2nd Half:

Brittni Jones would score first in the second half to cut the deficit to 12-3 after the Crusaders had a goal disallowed.

Three straight Crusader goals pushed the lead back out to 15-3.

Aubrie Lauderdale would find Elizabeth Gabriele on the left side of the cage for the last goal Converse could manage.

Belmont Abbey added three more goals in the contest to take the win 18-4.


Converse will take on Mount Olive on the road in Conference Carolinas action on April 2.
