Starkes' Career Day Not Enough Against Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Laura Starkes posts the third most points in a single contest in program history, but the Converse Lacrosse team fell to Pfeiffer in a Conference Carolinas clash 15-13 on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Laura Starkes posted 10 points in the contest with four goals and a career-high six assists.  Starkes' point total is third most in program history, while six assists is second most in a single contest.  With six assists, Starkes became the all-time assist leader with 47 career assists.

Aubrie Lauderdale netted four goals with a first half hat-trick.  Brittni Jones scored twice and added an assist.

Elizabeth Gabriele, Ashlei Alston, and Jessi Walters tallied one goal apiece.

Myka Jones took the loss in net (2-1) stopping 11 of the 39 shots faced.

Pfeiffer controlled the draw controls with a 21-10 advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half

Laura Starkes put the Valkyries on the board just 57 seconds into the contest with an unassisted goal.  Starkes would then find Aubrie Lauderdale for the goal giving the Valkyries a 2-0 advantage early.

Pfeiffer would tie things up at 2-2 before Laura Starkes hooked up with Aubrie Lauderdale once again for the goal.

The Falcons took the lead again at 4-3 but Laura Starkes found Elizabeth Gabriele for the goal.  Aubrie Lauderdale gave the Valkyries the 5-4 lead with 10:06 left in the half.

Pfeiffer scored three straight goals before Ashlei Alston scored off the dish from Laura Starkes to trail 7-6 at the break.

2nd Half

Converse came out of the second half strong jumping out to a 10-7 lead.  Laura Starkes scored twice and assisted on Jessi Walter's goal with Aubrie Lauderdale scoring off the Brittni Jones assist for the lead.

Pfeiffer clawed back to within one, 10-9, but Brittni Jones scored to push the lead back to two.

Down the stretch, Pfeiffer would outscore Converse 6-2 to take the lead.  Brittni Jones cut the deficit to 13-12 with 9:44 remaining but Pfeiffer added two goals to push the deficit to 15-12.

Laura Starkes scored an unassisted goal with 4:42 remaining for the final score of the contest.
