Second Half Barrage Propels Valkyries Past Nyack

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Converse Lacrosse team found their groove in the second half posting 11 goals on their way to an 18-12 victory over the visiting Nyack Warriors on a rainy Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

The nation's leading goal scorer, Laura Starkes, continued her scoring spree netting five goals while contributing a career-high four assists.  Starkes posted the fourth most points in a single contest with nine.  The Whitby, Ontario native is up to 32 goals on the season.

Elizabeth Gabriele and Brittni Jones tallied four goals each.  Aubrie Lauderdale and Jessi Walters added two apiece.  Lauderdale matched Laura Starkes with a career-high four assists.  Gabriele notched two assists.

Myka Jones improved to 2-0 in cage this season with nine saves.  Aubrie Lauderdale and Brittni Jones posted double-digit ground balls with 12 and 10 respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half

Converse got off to a slow start in the contest facing a 4-1 deficit just 11 minutes into the contest.  Elizabeth Gabriele scored off a pass from Laura Starkes to put the Valkyries on the board at the 21:55 mark.

A (wo)man-up goal by Aubrie Lauderdale on a free position shot cut the deficit in half, 4-2.  Nyack would add another tally to the board before Laura Starkes scored an unassisted goal with 11:06 remaining in the half.

Goals by Brittni Jones and Laura Starkes cut the Nyack lead to 6-5 with 6:04 to play, but the Warriors notched back-to-back goals giving them an 8-5 advantage.

Elizabeth Gabriele scored off a pass from Aubrie Lauderdale with 53 seconds remaining in the half.  Lauderdale would then find the back of the net off a pass from Laura Starkes 24 seconds later to head into the break trailing 8-7.

2nd Half

Converse saw their first lead of the contest after back-to-back goals to start the half.  Laura Starkes scored unassisted followed by Brittni Jones scoring on a free position gave the Valkyries the 9-8 lead less than three minutes into the half.

Nyack would knot things at 9-all, but not for long as Elizabeth Gabriele found Brittni Jones for the goal to spark a nine goal rally over the next 15 minutes of action.

Elizabeth Gabriele scored off the pass from Laura Starkes and would score later in the half off an assist from Aubrie Lauderdale

Jessi Walters scored twice during the run.  Walters was set-up on a free position thanks to Brittni Jones.  Walters would score her second off the pass from Elizabeth Gabriele.

Maria Knott and Laura Starkes would end the run with goals to give Converse an 18-9 lead.

Converse would concede three goals to end the contest.
