Valkyries Lacrosse Falls To Tampa

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Converse Lacrosse team dropped a non-conference match against the visiting Tampa Spartans on Sunday afternoon, 21-5.

Brittni Jones and Laura Starkes led the Valkyries with two goals each.  Elizabeth Gabriele netted a goal and had an assist.  Aubrie Lauderdale posted an assist.

Ashlei Alston tallied seven ground balls.  Jessi Walters recorded a career-high 14 saves.


1st Half

After Tampa scored on the opening posession, Elizabeth Gabriele found Laura Starkes in front of the cage to tie things up just 2:01 into the contest.

Tampa added three goals to to push out to a 4-1 lead.  Elizabeth Gabriele would find the back of the net off the pass from Aubrie Lauderdale to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.

Brittni Jones sccored a man-up goal on a free position shot to keep the Valkyries within striking distance at 5-3.

The Spartans went on a seven goal run the final seven minutes of action in the first half to take a 12-3 advantage into the break.

2nd Half

Tampa extended their lead to 15-3 with three straight goals out of halftime.

Unassisted goals by Brittni Jones and Laura Starkes would be the final scoring for the Valkyries.

Tampa would take the contest 21-5.


Converse will enter Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday, March 1 against Erskine.  Game time is at 4pm.
