A Season to Remember: Dawson Earns Converse Golf's Player of the Year Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior Tyler Dawson earned the 2017-18 Converse College Golf's Player of the Year as announced by head coach Patti McGowan at a recent awards banquet held by the team.

Dawson has been a catalyst for the Valkyries all season, leading the Purple and Gold to three top-5 finishes and four top-10 honors on the season. Dawson was named to the All-Tournament team on numerous occasions, including a runner-up finishes at the Converse Spring Invite, played on February 19-20, as well as the Cherokee Valley Women's Invitational on March 26-27.

During her 19 rounds on the year, Dawson compiled a scoring average of 79.05 (+7), which ranked her first on the team, while also earning a 401-129 overall win/loss record. Her best performance came at the Converse Fall Invite, where she posted a back-nine round of 33 (-3) and 36-hole, 155 (+11), including a five-foot eagle putt on the final hole to give Converse a second-place finish. Dawson also shot her lowest score of the year (73, +1) during the same event.

In each of her first three seasons, Dawson has been able to bring her scoring average down every season. "Tyler has worked very hard since coming to Converse," said McGowan. "I am pleased with the year that she had and cannot wait to see her back in action next year."
