TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – Junior Tyler Dawson shot a two day total of 156 (+12) to help lead the Converse College golf team to a third place finish at the Cherokee Valley Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Cherokee Valley Golf Club. Dawson's 36-hole score was good enough to earn her a spot on the All-Tournament team, finishing second overall and just three strokes behind Southern Wesleyan's Claire Page, who took home the top individual award.
After leading the tournament by a single stroke following day one, the Valkyries added seven strokes to their overall total (337) to finish in a tie for third with Coker and Tennessee Wesleyan. North Greenville jumped one spot during the final 18 to take home the team title, while Belmont Abbey finished 2nd.
Grace Magera placed in the top-15 (14th) after her two round score of 165 (+21), while Vienna Winalski and Marisa Daquil Kawabe ended the tournament in a tie for 24th overall, shooting 173 (+29) over 36 holes. Winalski was the biggest mover for the Valkyries after jumping six spots after shaving five strokes off her day one total. Bethany Thornbury turned in a 186 (+42) to capture 47th place.
Converse will now turn its attention to the Conference Carolinas Championships, which will be held April 14-17 in Snow Hill, N.C. at the Cutter Creek Golf Club.
