SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College golf team collected a runner-up finish at the 2018 Converse Spring Invite presented by Founders FCU on Tuesday afternoon at the beautiful Carolina Country Club. Coming in to the day in fifth place, the Valkyries cut 22 strokes off their round one score (332) to finish the tournament in second place. Lee University took home the team title with a two-day total of 619 (+43). Converse's day two total of 310 was tops on the day.
Tyler Dawson earned an All-Tournament team selection after leading the Valkyries with a two-day total of 152 (+8), good enough for a second place finish overall. Vienna Winalski came on strong on day two, shooting a +5, 77 which landed her in a tie for 9th, while teammate Grace Magera cut six strokes from her day one score, matching Winalski with a 77 (+5) on the day.
Marisa Daquil-Kawabe shaved an incredible 10 strokes off her initial effort of 91 and Taylor Fisk also improved by four shots, going from a 93 to an 89 on the final day of the tournament. Bethany Thornbury was the biggest improvement for the Valkyries after she turned in an 86 on day two, 17 strokes better than the opening round.
Limestone's Reme Cortes took home the top individual honor with a +1, 145. The Valkyries will return to action on March 12-13 as they will participate in the Coker Invitational hosted by Coker College.
