SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College golf team currently sits in a tie for fifth place overall following day one of the Converse Spring Invitational presented by Founders FCU. The Valkyries shot a team total of 332 (+44) to tie North Greenville. Lee University leads the field after a round one total of 304 (+16).
Tyler Dawson led the Purple and Gold during the opening 18, firing a team-low of 77 (+5). Dawson completed the front nine -1 as she birdied holes number eight and nine to head into the clubhouse with a 35.
Vienna Winalski (81, +9) sits in a tie for 16th while teammate Grace Magera (83, +11) is in a tie for 19th position. Marisa Daquil-Kawabe (91, +19) and Taylor Fisk (93, +21) finished the day in 37th and 39th, respectively. Bethany Thornbury (103, +31) rounded out the Converse golfers.
Reme Cortez of Limestone College leads all individuals after an opening round of 71 (-1). The second and concluding round will get underway tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
