Converse In Tenth After Opening Round of Terrier Intercollegiate


SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College golf team currently sits in 10th place after the first round of the 2017 Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College. The Valkyries, being the only DII team in the field, fired a team total of 337 (+49) during the first 18.

Tyler Dawson led the way for the Purple and Gold, turning in an 81 (+9). After shooting six-over on the front side, Dawson was able to pick it up on the back side, subtracting three strokes through the final nine.

Vienna Winalski sits just behind Dawson with an 82 (+10). Winalski stayed consistent throughout the day, posting a +5 on each nine of the course. Elaina Smith, playing in her first "A" team tournament of the season, posted a respectable 84 (+12), while Taylor Fisk and Marisa Kawabe rounded out the five for Converse with a 90 and 96, respectively.

High Point University currently leads the tournament after shooting a combined team score of 292 (+4), while the Panthers' Cayla Smith sits atop the individual leaderboard following a first round 69 (-3).

The Valkyries will get back underway for the second and final round tomorrow morning. All participants will be on a shotgun start beginning at 10 a.m. Kawabe starts on number 18 and Fisk will begin at the same time on hole 17. Smith and Winalski will both start on hole 16, while Dawson gets her final round underway at the 15th.
