BRISTOL, TENN. – The Converse College golf team sits in third place following day one of the King University Invitational on Monday afternoon at the beautiful Bristol Country Club. The Valkyries, who shot an opening day 319, currently trails second place and host King University (314) by five strokes and first place Carson-Newman (310) by nine total strokes.
Vienna Winalski paced the Purple and Gold, firing an opening round 77 (+6), good enough for a tie for seventh, followed by Tyler Dawson, who finished the afternoon in tie for 12th with a 8-over par, 79. Grace Magera (81, +10) and Taylor Fisk (82, +11) are in a tie for 17th and 22nd, respectively. Grace McEachern rounded out the five for Converse with an initial 18, 95 (+24).
Elizabeth England of Carson-Newman and Nicola Robertson of King sit atop the leaderboard after shooting one-over, 72s on the afternoon.
The Valkyries will look to gain ground as the second and final round kicks off tomorrow morning.
