SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College golf team kicked off its 2017 season during the first round of the annual Converse Fall Invite on Monday afternoon at the beautiful Carolina Country Club. After the opening 18, the Valkyries find themselves sitting in second place behind the Coker Cobras. Coker finished the day with a team score of 318, while Converse totaled 321.
Grace McEachern and Grace Magera paced the Purple and Gold with opening round 79s, good enough for a tie for seventh overall, followed by Marisa Daquil Kawabe fired an 8-over 80 over the initial 18, putting her in a tie ninth. Taylor Fisk (+9, 81) and Tyler Dawson (+10, 82) currently hold 11th and 14th positions, respectively.
Megan Dresser (+12, 84) is in a tie for 18th, while Vienna Winalski (+13, 85) holds a tie 21st. Elaina Smith (+17, 89, t-28th), Bethany Thornbury (+18, 90, 30th) and Breanne Buchner (+35, 107, 45th) rounded out the performers on the afternoon for the Valkyries.
Meghan Holbrooks (+2, 74) of Pfeiffer holds a slim lead over Kailtyn Gribbon (+3, 75) in the individual race. The second and final round will get underway at 9 am tomorrow morning.
