SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Converse Golf team sits in fourth after round one of the Converse Spring Invite by Founders FCU. This is the final home tournament for the inaugural team.
The Valkyries fired off an opening round 322 trailing the leader, King, by five strokes. Ansley Vaughan started off the tournament with a low round 76 for the Valkyries. Vaughan is tied for third in the field of 89. Marley Felthousen and Samantha McMillin sit tied for 15th after shooting 80s. Alex Bruce and Tyler Dawson rounded out the scoring shooting 86s.
Converse 'B' team was led by senior Allie McCain shooting a team low 80. Grace Magera shot 87 while Vienna Winalski finished with a round of 91. Elaina Smith and Grace McEachern shot 100 and 102 respectively.
Miranda Juarez (88) and Erin Penland (100) played as individuals for the Valkyries.
Conference Carolinas foe King leads the field with an opening round 317. Anderson sits in second trailing King by two strokes with Queens one stroke behind Anderson. Conference Carolinas member Erskine, Milligan and Tusculum are tied for fifth behind Converse after shooting 325 respectively.
Elizabeth Swallow of King is the leader after day one with an opening round 73. Swallow leads the pack by two strokes.
