SALISBURY, N.C.- The Converse golf team sits in fourth place of the Pasty Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba after round one of play on Monday. The Valkyries are second among Conference Carolinas squads with King leading the way among conference teams.
Tyler Dawson (Woodstock, Ga.) leads the way for the Valkyries shooting an opening round 77. Dawson shot 40 on the front and followed it up with a 37 to finish the round.
Allie McCain (Lancaster, S.C.) came in one stroke behind Dawson with a 78 shooting 39-39. McCain is tied for 19th out of the field of 78. Dawson sits tied for 14th.
Samantha McMillin (Inman, S.C.) carded a 39 on the front and finished with a 41 on the back for a round of 80. Marley Felthousen (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) couldn't find her stroke as she carded an 83 on the round.
Grace Magera (San Diego, Calif.) will look to rebound from her first round as she cards a 93.
West Georgia leads the way in the tournament after firing off a 297 with two of their players shooting under-par. UNC Pembroke shot 299 and King shot 309. Converse sits at 218 with Tusculum shooting 319 to round out the top five.
Converse will look to move up the leaderboard in the second round of the tournament. The Valkyries came away with the team title last season in this event.
The second round will be played on Tuesday morning.
