SNOW HILL, N.C.- The Converse golf team slipped to second place at the Cutter Creek Invitational hosted by Barton on Tuesday. The Valkyries shot 318 in the final round while UNC Pembroke surpassed Converse by nine strokes.
Samantha McMillin (Inman, S.C.) carded a final round 77 (+5) to finish third overall and land on the All-Tournament squad. McMillin finished with a tournament total 152 (75-77).
Marley Felthousen (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) was tripped up in the final round of the tournament shooting an 82 to card a tournament score of 155. Felthousen dropped to finish tied for ninth.
Ansley Vaughan (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) shot a stroke better in the second round of the tournament carding a 79. Vaughan finished with a score of 159 (80-79).
Allie McCain (Lancaster, S.C.) dropped three strokes in the second round after shooting an 82. McCain finished the tournament with a score of 161 (79-82).
Alex Bruce made the biggest improvement on the team improving her score by nine strokes shooting an 80 in the final round.
Converse was the top Conference Carolinas team in the tournament. The Valkyries edged out Pfeiffer by four strokes, who finished third. Mount Olive, Belmont Abbey, Barton and Southern Welseyan also competed.
