Valkyries Halt Skid In Revenge Match Against Pfeiffer

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Behind a career-high by Hannah Anderson, the Converse Basketball team defeated the Pfeiffer Falcons in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening, 81-73.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Hannah Anderson posted a career-high 17 points on 8-16 from the floor.  Anderson hauled in a team-high eight boards.  Brianna James led the Valkyries with 27 points with 14 coming from the stripe.  James also added eight rebounds.

Erin Horne scored nine points off the bench.  Keocia Walker chipped in with six points, six boards, and four assists.  Paige Johnson scored eight points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter

Converse started off the contest on a roll jumping out to an early 12-2 lead.  Hannah Anderson started the run with a layup inside.  After a Pfeiffer bucket, Paige Johnson gave the Valkyries the lead knocking down a triple.  Hannah Anderson connected once again from the floor.

Brianna James went 1-2 from the stripe before Hannah Anderson made a layup and James hit a jumper to give the Valkyries a 12-2 advantage.

Pfeiffer would not go away quietly going on an 8-2 run to cut it to a 14-10 contest.  Brianna James hit a layup during the spurt.

Tatum Boggs ended the quarter with five points connecting on a three and a jumper.

Converse led 23-15 after the first 10 minutes of action.

2nd Quarter

Kassidy Moorhouse kept the scoring rolling in the second quarter knocking down her lone triple of the night.  Converse would extend their lead back out to double-figures with Hannah Anderson hitting a jumper and Brianna James hitting two from the stripe.

Pfeiffer would cut the deficit to six, 32-26 midway through the quarter before Brianna James connected from deep.  Pfeiffer would answer on the next possession.

Converse ended the half on an 8-3 run.  Brianna James scored four points during the run with Erin Horne hitting two from the stripe and Hannah Anderson knocking down another jumper.

The Valkyries led 43-32 at intermission.

3rd Quarter

The Valkyries kept the pressure up in the third quarter jumping out to a 48-36 lead.  Paige Johnson knocked down a pair from the stripe and Brianna James scored three points.

Keocia Walker would give the Valkyries a spark after grabbing the rebound and pushing up the floor.  Walker found Abigail Lewis for a layup after the behind the back dish to Lewis.  Walker gave Converse their largest lead of the contest at the 5:34 mark of the quarter at 55-39 after knocking down two from the line.

Pfeiffer ended the quarter strong to cut the deficit to five, 58-53, heading into the final quarter.

4th Quarter

Pfeiffer came out of the break scoring five straight points to knot things at 58-all forcing a timeout by the Valkyries.

The Falcons would gain the lead at the 7:02 mark at 61-59 after a made three, but the lead would not last for Pfeiffer as Keocia Walker handed Converse the lead back with a trey of her own 25 seconds later.

Converse would add onto their lead when Brianna James hits a jumper followed by Erin Horne's layup on the next possession.  James kept pouring it on from the line with four more freebies.

Hannah Anderson and Brianna James would fight off the Falcon rally with an Anderson jumper and two more from the charity stripe by James.

The Valkyries would ice the contest going 6-8 from the stripe down the stretch.

Converse will wrap-up the 2016-17 season against North Greenville on Friday, February 24 at 7pm.  The Valkyries will honor: Hannah Anderson, Erin Horne, and Kassidy Moorhouse before the game.
