Converse Field Hockey Loses to Transylvania

LEXINGTON, KY. – The Converse (0-6) Field Hockey team fell 1-0 at the hands of the Transylvania Pioneers on Friday evening. The Valkyrie defense was solid all night, but could not post a goal on offense, eventually dropping their second one-score game of the year.

Marina Montes-Nino led the Purple and Gold offense with three shots, while Madison Conlon and Flore Samsi chipped in two each. Tori Coleman led the Pioneers with three shots and the lone goal of the contest.

Transylvania outshot the Valkyries by a total of 16-9, while taking an 11-2 edge on penalty corners. Ciriaca Petitto collected 10 saves on the evening.

Montes-Nino blasted a shot on goal in third minute of the contest, but the Valkyries managed only one more shot-on-goal the rest of the contest. After a stalemate on offense, Coleman took a pass from Alyson Bergman in the 27th minute and pushed it past the Converse keeper, registering the only score for either side.

The Valkyries will be back in action on Sunday, September 24 as they travel to face off against Sewanee. That contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
