Converse Names Lovelace As Field Hockey Head Coach

Converse College and Athletic Director Joy Couch are pleased to announce the hiring of Kelsey Lovelace as Converse's head coach of its new Field Hockey program. Converse announced Field Hockey in October as the department's 14th intercollegiate sport and 12th NCAA sponsored sport.

"We are extremely excited to have Kelsey join our staff as the Field Hockey's head coach," stated Joy Couch. "Kelsey's knowledge of the game, her passion for mentoring student-athletes, and her commitment to supporting the academic and athletic goals of our field hockey student-athletes will ensure the development of our program."

"We have taken an important step in building our new Field Hockey program by welcoming Kelsey. Her success as both a player and assistant coach at the collegiate level and her principles, energy, and vision for the program are just what we need to start us off on the right foot," stated President Newkirk.

"I would like to thank President Newkirk and Joy Couch for this wonderful opportunity," said Lovelace. "I am extremely excited to hit the ground running. I will immediately begin to recruit the first class that will restart the field Hockey program at Converse College."

Converse began it's field hockey program in 1973, coached by former Athletic Director Margaret Moore, before discontinuing the program in 1983.

"During my interview process , Converse was very warm and welcoming. It is this hospitality that makes me very excited, along with a tremendous campus, to be able to recruit quality student athletes. I look forward to growing the program with standards and values that will make Converse very proud. I want to thank the coaches I have played for and worked with over my career . I have learned so much from all of them. I would especially like to thank Mercyhurst University for providing me a positive experience and a quality education that allows me to follow my dream. Last, but not least, I'd like to thank my family. Without their love and support, none of this would be possible. I look forward to many years of success on and off the field. Go Valkyries!"

Lovelace comes to Converse after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Limestone College. Kelsey helped the Saints to back-to-back 11 win seasons and ECAC Championship games with a ECAC Championship title in 2015.

Prior to her coaching career, Lovelace played at Mercyhurst University. During her career with the Mercyhurst Lakers, she scored 22 goals and recorded four assists as a forward.

Lovelace graduated from Mercyhurst in 2015 with a bachelors degree in communications with a concentration in new media. Kelsey and the Field Hockey program will begin recruiting with the goal of fielding the team for the 2017 fall season.
