ERIE, Pa. – The Converse College acro and tumbling team fell in the first round to the three-time defending national champion Baylor Bears by the final of 277.535-260.905. Converse was able to take a win in the pyramid event, but Baylor captured victories in the other five events to eliminate the Valkyries from the bracket.
Baylor started the night with an impressive opening compulsory event, posting a total score of 38.150 to the Purple and Gold's 34.225. The biggest difference was in the acro heat where the Vals were outscored by 2.5 points (9.0-6.5).
That lead grew following the acro event, but Converse cut into the deficit with a very respectable pyramid event, outdoing the nation's top team, 29.025-28.350. Heat three of the pyramid event proved crucial for the Valkyries as they dominated by a score of 9.725-8.7.
However, that would be the only event Converse took home as Baylor tallied wins in the toss (28.750-27.125), tumbling (58.150-51.775), and team event (94.660-91.430), earning the hard-fought victory.
The Valkyries will now wait to see if they have anyone qualify for individual events, which will be held on Saturday, April 28.
