SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College Acrobatics and Tumbling team has been included as one of the eight teams who will compete for the 2018 National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association National Championship as the NCATA announced earlier today. The Valkyries will control the No. 8 seed and face Baylor in the first round on Thursday, April 26 at 5 p.m.
Converse becomes the first inaugural team since the field went to the top-8 teams to earn an invitation to the National Championships. On the season the Valkyries went 4-4 with key two key wins over King University, who finished just outside the championship bracket. The Valkyries were eighth in overall scoring with a 264.6 meet average.
The tournament schedule begins on April 26 with the four quarterfinal meets. Third-seed Quinnipiac and sixth-seeded Fairmont State will open the tournament at noon (EST) before a battle between No. 2 Azusa Pacific and No. 7 Hawaii Pacific at 2 p.m.. Top-seeded Baylor and No. 8 Converse will square off at 5 p.m. before No. 4 Oregon and tournament host Gannon conclude the day with a 7 p.m. meet.
